The Lightlife Foods booth at the Green River Festival had a new mission – all of the proceeds from their sales were donated to the Gretchen S. Watson Scholarship Fund. Lightlife Foods served up a healthy vegetarian option for festival-goers at their concession stand, staffed by Gretchen’s daughter and Lightlife employee, Sophie Gardner, and other employees from the well-known Turners Falls business. Greenfield Community College is pleased to announce that it has received funding in the amount of $25,000 from the Foundation of National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc. Promise of Nursing Program. The funds will be used to develop and implement a recruitment effort directed at licensed practical nurses that are eligible to enroll directly into the second year nursing program and graduate with their Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) at the end of that year. The Greenfield Community College Board of Trustees has endorsed the revised GCC Vision and Mission Statement. The new statement about GCC, which was adopted by unanimous vote of the College Assembly in May, is in many ways a reflection of the college’s past, as well as an intended, explicit and purposeful guide for its future. Emily Asenath-Smith, a Greenfield Community College alumnae who recently graduated summa cum laude from Mount Holyoke College, has been awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship to pursue graduate studies in ceramic engineering at Alfred University in New York, a school well known for its ceramics arts and technology programs.
