Peer Tutoring Program

Summer Peer Tutoring

The Peer Tutoring Program offers free tutoring to students of most Summer I and Summer II courses at GCC. This can be a valuable resource given the condensed nature of summer classes. General hours of operation will be:

  • 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday and Thursday
  • 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday
  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday

Tutoring is available in one- hour blocks and will be offered by appointment only. Please call 775-1330, or stop by the Learning Center, 4th floor N of the Main building to schedule appointments or for more information.

Peer tutoring offers students the opportunity to look at how they learn. Students enrolled in any GCC course are welcome to meet with peer tutors in the fall and spring semesters. In tutoring sessions, students explore ways to study and problem solve, and they apply these strategies to specific course assignments.

Who uses tutors?

Tutoring is for students who are struggling in a course and need ongoing support, students who have been out of school for a while and need to brush up, and students who are doing well in a course and need to clarify a few points. Everyone is welcome!

What courses?
Tutors are available for all English and math courses, as well as most other courses offered at the college. They can help with writing assignments, research, calculator and computer use, study skills, and test preparation.

Who are the tutors?
Tutors are Greenfield Community College students who have been successful themselves in the courses they tutor and have been recommended by the faculty. Tutors receive ongoing training from tutor coordinators in effective tutoring skills.

What happens in a tutoring session?
Students come to a session with their questions and course materials. Tutors help students work through the material, class notes, text and assignments. Tutors are trained to listen, ask questions and assist students in the learning process.

How much does it cost?
All tutoring is free.

How do I schedule an appointment?
Students may call 775-1330 or stop in the Learning Center. Plan ahead and make an appointment whenever you can.
