William A. McRae '07 - Accountant
Bill McRae joined the Marines after high school
and served as a communicator. After he left in '04
with the rank of Sergeant, he applied to the
Isenberg School of Management at UMass but was
not accepted. He took their advice to obtain an
associate's degree in Business Administration at
GCC, and then transfer to UMass. He is glad he
did. GCC allowed him to "turn it down" after his
chaotic experience in the military, and the small
classes were a great learning environment for him.
He especially acknowledges Professor Jeff Galbraith
as a strong influence on his chosen career, and
credits his Café Academia experience with Thom
Simmons with building his business skills.
Bill graduated from the UMass Isenberg School of
Management in '08 and had a job as an accountant
waiting for him. He will continue to take courses to
study for the CPA exam and begin his career as a
Certified Public Accountant. "Without the
accounting courses Jeff taught, I wouldn't be where
I am now," he says.
