Buz Eisenberg - Criminal Justice Professor
Professor Buz Eisenberg teaches law related topics at GCC. He is of counsel to the litigation firm of Weinberg & Garber, P.C. of Northampton, and has been a practicing attorney in Franklin County since 1980. A parent of two teachers and a grandfather of two, Buz has been a resident of Ashfield, MA since 1971 where he serves as Town Moderator.
Aside from being a cooperating ACLU attorney of 25 years, Buz has been representing Guantanamo detainees since 2004, and is a frequent speaker on constitutional issues.
Recently he has met with MPs in the British Parliament; with senators and representatives in the U.S. Congress; members of the Council of Europe; the European Parliament in Belgium; and Foreign Ministers of many countries to discuss asylum issues and questions involving compliance with International Law.
In May of 2007 Buz was awarded the prestigious President's Award by the Boston Bar Association at a dinner attended by 1600 people, at which Governor Deval Patrick spoke of the role of the "citizen-lawyer." In June he was awarded the Distinguished National Service Award by National Legal Aid and Defenders Association in Washington, D.C. In 1999 he was given the Massachusetts Bar Association Pro Bono Publico Award. In 1992 he was awarded a special recognition by the Massachusetts Citizens Against the Death Penalty.
